About the IEJ
The IEJ is a progressive economics think tank based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The IEJ’s core objective is to provide policy makers and progressive social forces in South Africa with access to rigorous economic analysis, and well thought through policy options, as a basis for advancing systemic change. IEJ proposals must advance social justice, promote equitable economic development that realises socio-economic rights, and ensure a thriving, democratic, environmentally sustainable, and inclusive economy that places the needs of the majority at the centre.

Economic and Climate Justice vacancies
The IEJ has recently launched an Economic and Climate Justice programme. This involves work to support an approach to climate policy that promotes human rights, gender equity and social transformation, while advancing economic policies that ensure environmental sustainability. We see economic justice and climate justice as intersecting imperatives. This is framed by ideas of a Just Transition, Just Recovery and Green New Deal. See our recent report here.
Senior Researcher: Economic and Climate Justice Project
The senior researcher will lead work within this project, conduct research, engage stakeholders, and develop policy proposals. This is a full-time 12-month contract beginning in September 2020. See more information here.
Junior Researcher: Economic and Climate Justice Project
The junior researcher will conduct research and coordinate events within this project while being trained and mentored within the Institute. This is a full-time 12-month contract beginning in September 2020. See more information here.
Communications and advocacy vacancies
Part-time Communications Officer
The communications officer will work across programmes to ensure the research and policy suggestions of the IEJ are accessible to a broad range of stakeholders and partners. In the initial phase, this will have a focus on the IEJ’s Economic and Climate Justice project and the Economics and Human Rights project. This is a part-time 12-month contract beginning in September 2020. See more information here.
